British rule in India was the most traumatic period for the Indian economy, almost bringing it to its knees. Indian Economy faced tremendous problems in developing the proper infrastructure. By taking this into consideration, the existing Government decided to form a committee of a few members who all decided to work on the quality of goods and recognized that there should be a body that can monitor the quality of products, can protect end consumers from getting cheap products. This led to the establishment of the organization "Indian Standard Institute," which focused on standardization development.
