UPDATES ON QCO FOR TRIMETHYL PHOSPHITE

Important update regarding Proposed mandatory certification requirements applicable to manufacture/imports/sales of product “Trimethyl Phosphite” for Indian market. The standard of Trimethyl Phosphite is being made mandatory to protect the human health and overall eco system. Protection of human health or safety.

The Government of India and Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals in India have come up with the latest notification and Proposed mandatory certification on Trimethyl phosphite product. Trimethyl phosphate is proposed to be regulated as per the document, along with respective Indian Standard.

Trimethyl Phosphite is a pesticide intermediate, a polymer additive, a fibre intermediate, and a photographic intermediate. It will be harmful to plant life and the environment if the technical parameters specified in the standard are not followed. As a result, the norm should be made necessary in order to preserve human health and the environment. Trimethyl Phosphite, whether locally produced or imported, must meet the Indian standard (IS 17412:2020) and wear the standard mark under licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The Bureau of Indian Standards Act 2016 and the Rules and Regulations promulgated there under govern the use of standard marks. The certifying and enforcement authority will be the Bureau of Indian Standards.

It may also include or deal exclusively with terminology, symbols, packaging, marking or labelling requirements as they apply to a product, process or production method. The difference between a standard and a technical regulation lies in compliance. While conformity with standards is voluntary, technical regulations are by nature mandatory.

In India, Technical regulations include Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) based on various Conformity Assessment Schemes. Technical regulation regime in India is being strengthened to promote public health and safety, environmental protection, to safeguard national security requirements and discourage deceptive trade practices.

• Data collection, analysis and identification of product.
• Identification of corresponding Indian Standards
• Drafting of TR in consultation with Bureau of Indian Standards
• Consultation with Stakeholders
• Approval from Competent Authority
• Legal vetting of TR
• Notification at WTO website
• Release of Gazette Notification.

As per the WTO Order, Trimethyl Phospite is being made mandatory to protect the human health and overall environment.
