In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.
To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 16415:2015 for composite cement.
Composite cement is covered under IS 16415: 2015. The criteria for composite cement are covered in this standard, which includes manufacturing, chemical and physical requirements, packing, and marking. It specifies the requirements of materials, fly ash and granulated slag, and their proportions to be used in the production of composite cement.
Composite cement is blended cement that contains more than one blending material. IS: 16415-2015 covers composite cement, which provides an excellent opportunity to make high-strength, long-lasting concrete. This standard outlines how composite cement is made and the chemical and physical requirements.
Composite cement is made up of high-quality clinker, fly ash, granulated slag, and gypsum. Typical range of these components is clinker (35% to 65%), fly ash (15% to 35%), granulated slag (20% to 50%) and gypsum (3% to 5%).
Composite cement shall be produced by intimately inter grinding Portland cement clinker, granulated slag, and fly ash with required addition of gypsum or by intimately and uniformly blending ordinary Portland cement, finely ground granulated slag, and fine fly ash with the required addition of gypsum to produce a cement capable of complying with this standard.
Concretes for special applications can be made with composite cement containing a fly ash component. Alkaline and sulphate corrosion-resistant concrete can be made with blended cement. Composite cement shall comply with the chemical and physical requirements given in the standard.
The following test shall be carried out for composite cement.
A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.
The manufacturer must demonstrate that the cement meets the requirements of this standard. IS 16415:2015 specifies the marking and packing requirements. Each bag or drum of cement must be labelled with the information specified in the standard. The cement may also be labelled with the ISI Certification mark. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.
