The Wood-Based Boards (Veneered particle boards)
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," which will come into effect from February 11, 2025.
However, for small enterprises as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it will be enforced from May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, from August 11, 2025.
According to this order, Veneered particle boards must conform to Indian Standard 3097:2006 and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Importantly, this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for Veneered particle boards.
Violations of this order will be subject to punishment under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
